Christmas 2011

SO excited for Christmas! We leave in just 2 weeks for California and can't wait to see all the family, especially baby Jane and Emily (haven't seen her in a year)! What fun! I am very sad my camera hasn't been working but I really want to be better at this blogging thing. We have been married over 6 months now. Life is happy indeed. Rob and I went to the Provo Christmas parade this morning, which was mostly a bunch of local businesses advertising and throwing candy for kids. Santa came by atop a fire engine and it was very cold outside but we had fun and were glad it waited to snow till this afternoon! We spent Thanksgiving this year with Rob's parents, his sister Maren, her husband Dave and Grandma Somers! What a wonderful break from work and school and a time to focus on the tremendous blessing we've been given! What a fabulous year it's been!

Life is HAPPY!

Here we are! The first time as Mr. and Mrs. Somers!

We did it!

So it's been 3 months since our wedding but we got the pictures back not too long ago and since we haven't really shared our blog with anyone yet it doesn't matter too much how long it's been! Here are a few photos of the big day. It was amazing and we are so, so, so grateful to all who helped!

Less than a week!

Apparently we haven't caught on to this whole blogging thing yet, since it hasn't been updated in MONTHS! Well the wedding day is almost here and we couldn't be more excited! Thanks so much to all the wonderful friends and family who have helped in the planning process. Can't wait to see you soon in Rexburg! Happy, happy times!

One week down, 17 more to go!

So we've been engaged almost a full week now!  For all those who want to know how it all went down here's Becca to tell the story because she tells it better than I do...
It was Martin Luther King Jr. day-January 19th.  I was a little suspicious when Rob said he wanted to do an "outside thing" later and the temperature was less than 30 degrees. We ended up driving 30 seconds to a park down the street from where I live. Rob said he didn't want us to get too cold before we even got there. So, with his backpack and a blanket in hand, we trudged across the leftover snow and he had me choose a spot to sit. Problem is a family had decided to go sledding before we got there and I had insisted in advance that Rob not propose in front of people. We thought maybe they'd leave soon and waited. Then waited some more. So we moved to a new spot which happened to be under the coolest tree ever! It is some type of pine, which kind of has an opening so you can sit/stand inside the branches. As we sat there, the family decided to leave, but on their way to the car, stopped at the playground right next to us! Rob was getting pretty frustrated and when one of the kids said "Dad, can we go home?" he blurted out "Yeah, go home!" Not quite loud enough for them to hear. He took out his computer and we typed little messages to each other, still waiting... As they got in their car Rob said "If one more person comes over here, I'm gonna yell at them!" Haha. So, he sets his laptop on the blanket in front of us and starts a little slide show. There were pictures of us from the time we started dating to now, several with little captions on them. Such as "You're cute even when with a silly face." Showing a picture of us making goofy faces. Then there was one of the time we destoyed the graham cracker houses we had made. "I'll be there for you even when the world comes crumbling down." Of course he also included the picture of us in front of the San Antonio Texas temple with the word "Foreshadowing?" in front of it. All the while the pictures were showing, a song was playing, which just happens to be my new favorite love song. It's called "Here" by Rascal Flatts. Way to go Rob for remembering!  He asked if I wanted to dance and so we did, under the tree, as the sun went down. Then he directed my attention to the screen as the words Cast and Credits appeared. "The luckiest guy in the world to have Becca: Rob Somers" and then "The greatest and most beautiful girl in the world: Becca Somers." Oh my! That's when I was thinking, "Whoa, he's really going to propose!" Then the screen read: "Get ready Becca... Put on your biggest smile...Prep those tear ducts...Hope your cell phone's charged...Now you'll never have to be alone." At that point he got down on his knee and there was a little box in his hand! He asked me to marry him and of course my answer was yes... "I don't think anything could make me happier!" We danced a little longer and as we walked back to the car, I had to do a happy little engagement jig. Rob said "Oh geez Becca, what are you going to do when we get married? You won't even be able to stand still for pictures you'll be so excited." "I know!" was all I could say. First we called our parents, and Rob's dad made the comment "Wow Rob I didn't know you had that romantic streak in you!" My dad's response was "Wahoooooo!" Everyone was very excited and happy for this momentous occasion. My roommates all screamed and even clapped when I told the story upstairs, to which Rob responded "I'm SO glad I wasn't up there just now!" Happy, happy, happpy!
Good storytelling Becca!  So we are both super excited to be engaged and to be getting married on May 22 (just need to schedule it at the temple)
Here's the video I made and a picture of Becca's ring (the part in the video where it just shows one picture for a long time is when Becca and I were dancing.):
